In a nutshell: at 25 I was working alongside 21 other care experienced people and a few Scottish charities to petition the Scottish Parliament for law change, I lost social work support at 21 after years of trying to make my own tenancy work.

It is my belief that 21 is far too young to cut people off and that even by 25 I wasn’t quite ready to be alone and self sufficient, luckily I had a lot of friends to lean on and was working with several charities to try and implement change, this kept me going. If I could speak to any social work department / local authority I would recommend making sure that until a young person is absolutely ready to go life alone, that they have steady support… Lets keep in mind that the average young person doesn’t leave home until 26/27 and even then they still have parental support.
