- This Easter Sunday, 52% of parents with children in England are planning on spending six or more hours of quality time together as a family
- 58% are planning on having a sit down meal together during the Easter weekend

The Children’s Commissioner, Anne Longfield, has said that it is hugely important for children to spend a decent amount quality time with their families over the long Easter Bank holiday – and the results of the survey suggest that over half of families agree.
52% of parents in England are planning to spend six or more hours with their children. Parents in London (60%) and the South East (62%) are leading the way, planning to spend more six hours quality time together.
Speaking in response to the survey, Anne Longfield said:
“Spending time as a family is really important for children and the longest bank holiday of the year is a great opportunity for a get together.
“Family gatherings let us relax and recharge our batteries with the people we are closest to. Whether it’s getting together for a meal or just having a chat, quality time with families is a chance to relax and build relationships without the pressures of the outside world.
“It doesn’t cost the earth to spend a bit of quality time. The best things in life are free, and they’re each other.
“At a time when we’re so concerned about the pressure of 24 hour communications and the effect it has on children’s anxiety levels, quality family time is an important antidote.”
The survey of parents, carried out by YouGov, listed both top Easter Weekend activities and top ordinary Sunday activities, it showed that:
This Bank Holiday Easter weekend, families (parents and all their children) will get together to do the following activities:
- 37% will go for a walk or bike ride
- 22% are planning a shopping trip
- 50% will watch TV together
- 44% plan to spend time with relatives
On a typical weekend, families (parents and all their children) usually get together to do the following:
- 69% sit down for a meal together
- 75% watch TV
- 45% spend time with relatives
- 48% get together for a walk or bike ride

All figures, unless otherwise stated, are from YouGov Plc. Total sample size was 3503 adults. Fieldwork was undertaken between 21st – 23rd March 2016. The survey was carried out online. The figures have been weighted and are representative of all English adults (aged 18+).
The survey by YouGov interviewed 833 parents with children aged 18 and under about their plans to spend quality time with their children this Easter Weekend. The survey produced the following regional results:
