The IMO Podcast is a series of open and honest conversations with care leavers that gives a voice to the diverse experiences that make up the care population. Each episode we invite someone who’s been in care to talk about anything they like. It’s an opportunity to hear the voices of people who often don’t get the chance to tell their stories, and it’s a chance to inspire and encourage others in similar situations.

Three years ago Ashley Jean-Baptiste joined us to talk about his experiences and career. In the second episode of series 3 Ashley is back and talks to us about ambition and founding Be Inspired, an annual event for care experienced young people to take hold of their futures.

My genuine hope is that care experienced people just feel like they can live the life they want to live, that they can flourish, that this is a society that truly empowers them to be who they want to be, if they are prepared to work for it.

I suppose that the way I approach my background and being care experienced is that this is going to be something that brings about positive change.

When IMO launched, Ashley spoke about his past and how being in care didn’t stop him achieving, and why he thinks it’s important that more people like him are in the media and bringing in fresh ideas.
