Children’s Commissioner for England, Anne Longfield said:
“The growing levels of anxiety, depression and other mental health problems experienced by young people reported here are of deep concern. My recent research showed that some local areas are coping better than others with one in four young people currently rejected for treatment by local mental health services in England, despite serious conditions.
“The report highlights the growth of social media in the lives of young people. The digital taskforce I am leading and which will report early next year is looking at how we can support children and young people to benefit from the immense opportunities provided by the internet, whilst better protecting them from any harm they may be exposed to as a result.
“I will also be publishing guidance for parents later this year to help them help their children to manage their online time.”
