I am extremely concerned by these findings. Parents need to be able to assure themselves that anyone looking after their children does not have a criminal record – sex offenders can be very devious in gaining access to young people. I will be contacting major tutoring agencies to seek assurances that proper safeguarding checks are being carried out, and clarifying the situation with the Home Office. If changes to DBS checks are necessary, these need to be implemented urgently.
