Responding to today’s announcement that Government is aiming to introduce statutory sex education across all schools, Anne Longfield, Children’s Commissioner for England said:
“Making relationships and sex education available in every school was one of my first calls when I came into office two years ago today, so I am delighted that the Government has announced today that it will make it statutory. Children are asking for lessons to help them prepare for life and protect them from exploitation and abuse. The many cases that have made disturbing headlines in recent years make preparing them for the adult world even more urgent.
“The lessons are important in building life skills and resilience but will need to be of the highest quality if they are to truly have the impact we wish.”
