Anne Longfield, Children’s Commissioner for England said:
“It is deeply troubling that the number of young people contacting Childline with suicidal thoughts has risen so dramatically and it’s vital that we look at the reasons for this. The world they grow up is increasingly complex and many say that the pressure from 24/7 social media affects them, whilst at the same time many cannot access the specialist mental health support they need. The solution must lie in better support for children and young people to protect them from the pressures they may be exposed to and also better specialist mental health provision when they need it.”
