Commenting on the production of new child abuse and neglect guidelines by NICE, Children’s Commissioner, Anne Longfield said:
“I am delighted that NICE is producing guidelines on identifying child abuse and neglect which they are consulting on.
“We know that abuse and neglect often go unseen and children rarely speak out if they have been abused, so professionals must do more to identify children who need help. They should be more professionally curious in their approach if they have concerns about a child.
“My research found that just 1 in 8 of children who are sexually abused are known to authorities, so it is vital that adults know the signs of abuse and act if they spot them.”
