I am concerned that the closure of the College of Social Work could damage the profession’s standards and standing and ultimately, affect vulnerable children.
Any new Government has choices about the priority it gives to improving the lives of children and young people and the Queen’s Speech included a number of measures which make a positive start.
I have been advised by the Department for Education that they now judge our contract with Sue Berelowitz to lead the inquiry into child sexual abuse within the family context to fall outside Government rules and have therefore cancelled it.
The new Government has the opportunity to truly commit to improving the lives of all children in England over the next five years.
The exploitation of children for sex is a horrific crime which must be stopped and this is why I am a strong supporter of the National Awareness Day.
