Anne Longfield, Children’s Commissioner for England said: “It’s very concerning that despite the growth in awareness about child abuse and exploitation there are significant gaps in the ability of many healthcare professionals to identify children at risk and take appropriate action. We know that most abuse is not detected by authorities – healthcare professionals have an essential role to play in spotting the signs. Getting this right needs to be a key priority for local health providers.”
