Anne Longfield, Children’s Commissioner for England said:
“Children who are vulnerable to extremism must be helped to protect themselves and stay safe by being taught the skills and knowledge they need to question ‘twisted ideologies’. It is also vital that we renew efforts to tackle feelings of alienation and prejudice among some groups of children and build a shared sense of belonging for all in society.
“The measures announced by the Government today, including the launch of the ‘Educate against hate’ website and moves to prosecute illegal, unregistered schools are likely to be important components of the drive to protect children from the harm caused through being groomed by extremists. The ‘Educate against hate’ website has the potential to provide much needed information and advice for parents and teachers to help them to discuss and address this critical issue with young people.”
