If you think you might be interested, we have shared <a href=\"https:\/\/imohub.org.uk\/career-experienced-people-meet-louise-a-civil-service-care-leaver-intern\/\">Louise\u2019s experience<\/a> of this scheme on IMO.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Care Leaver Covenant post <a href=\"https:\/\/mycovenant.org.uk\/for-care-leavers\/care-leaver-opportunities\/\">opportunities for care leavers<\/a>. If you search within this, they have some organisations who specifically offer <a href=\"https:\/\/mycovenant.org.uk\/opportunities\/cvs-and-interview-skills\/\">CV and interview skills such as Clarke Willmott.<\/a>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Department for Business Innovation &amp; Skills developed a guide in 2015 for <a href=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/attachment_data\/file\/484529\/BIS-15-656-skills-support-for-care-leavers.pdf\">skills support for care leavers.<\/a>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A lot of museums offer volunteer opportunities and provide volunteers with training to do their roles, this includes the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencemuseum.org.uk\/about-us\/volunteering-science-museum\">Science Museum<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.museumoflondon.org.uk\/support-us\/volunteer\">Museum of London<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhm.ac.uk\/take-part\/volunteer.html\">Natural History Museum<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vam.ac.uk\/info\/jobs\">V&amp;A<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britishmuseum.org\/support-us\/volunteer\">British Museum<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/designmuseum.org\/about-the-museum\/volunteer-at-the-museum\">Design Museum<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rmg.co.uk\/about-us\/jobs\/volunteering\">Royal Museums Greenwich<\/a> (and many more \u2013 including local museums who are very keen to have more volunteers).&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" id=\"2\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Charities offering support&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/smartworks.org.uk\/\">Smart Works<\/a> is a brilliant charity providing career coaching, one-to-one interview support and clothes for interview for unemployed women or women on 0 hours contracts. My office are referrers so care levers or professionals working with them can contact Help at Hand or IMO If they would like to be referred (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk\/help-at-hand\/\">Help at Hand<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/imohub.org.uk\/\">IMO<\/a>:\u202f<a href=\"mailto:hello@imohub.org.uk\">hello@imohub.org.uk<\/a>). We have shared more in our <a href=\"https:\/\/imohub.org.uk\/career-experienced-people-meet-kim-a-care-experienced-project-manager-on-the-civil-service-fast-stream\/\">video with Kim<\/a>, a care-experienced Project Manager on the Civil Service Fast Stream currently working with Smart Works.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Drive forward foundation offers <a href=\"https:\/\/driveforwardfoundation.org\/help-for-young-people\/\">support for care leavers<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Barnardo&#8217;s offer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.barnardos.org.uk\/what-we-do\/supporting-young-people\/leaving-care\/young-person\/employment-training\">Employment Training and Skills (ETS) courses<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Become offer a variety of resources including <a href=\"https:\/\/becomecharity.org.uk\/from-care-to-careers-five-key-messages-on-supporting-care-leavers-into-employment\/\">From care to careers: five key messages on supporting care leavers into employment<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thrive is a digital platform offering <a href=\"https:\/\/www.career-matters.org\/career-matters-thrive-platform\/\">support for care leavers<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" id=\"3\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Council run initiates<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Surrey County Council have a list of various resources that can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.surreycc.gov.uk\/children\/support-and-advice\/youth-voice\/care-leavers\/careers\">support care leavers into employment<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Waltham Forest also have an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.walthamforest.gov.uk\/families-young-people-and-children\/care-leavers-offer\/employment-care-leavers\">employment for care leavers<\/a> page.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Mayor of London site shares <a href=\"https:\/\/www.london.gov.uk\/programmes-strategies\/education-and-youth\/young-londoners\/support-care-leavers\">support for care leavers<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There are lots of other organisations and children in care councils who share support for care leavers and help with employment which can be googled, there is some information on <a href=\"https:\/\/careexperienced.hounslow.gov.uk\/get-information\/being-a-care-leaver\/your-education-training-and-employment\/\">Hounslow\u2019s website<\/a> about how to do this, but check out your own local council for more information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It can be hard to navigate careers, so for Care Day 2023 we have started this list of career and employability resources.
