Here is a round up celebrating everything we&#8217;ve shared over the past year.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the last year we have had incredible contributions from you all and we wanted to share all of the great things you&#8217;ve been doing!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of last year and start of this year we developed a third series of our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk\/imo\/podcast\/\">award winning podcast<\/a> challenging negative perceptions of those in the care system and encouraging new perspectives. In the series we hear from:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk\/imo\/your-stories\/the-imo-podcast-series-3-episode-1-jeromes-story\/\">Jerome<\/a>, who shares how the suicide of a close friend inspired him to set up The Tope Project, a loving space for care leavers to combat loneliness. He also talks about his journey of healing the traumas he experienced in the care system and living with peace and joy in his present.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk\/imo\/your-stories\/the-imo-podcast-series-3-episode-2-ashleys-back\/\">Ashley Jean-Baptiste<\/a>, who recorded an IMO podcast about his experiences and career three years ago and returns to talk about ambition and founding Be Inspired, an annual event for care experienced young people to take hold of their futures.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk\/imo\/your-stories\/the-imo-podcast-series-3-episode-3-isabelles-story\/\">Isabelle<\/a>, who talks about her \u2018corporate parents\u2019 breaking up with her via text, her work using art to make a difference, and the importance of having ownership of your story and your identity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk\/imo\/your-stories\/the-imo-podcast-series-3-episode-4-ric-flo\/\">Ric Flo<\/a>, who talks about having a creative or physical outlet as therapy, representation in music and managing relationships with foster carers and biological family. He also shares what inspired him and powerful advice for achieving your goals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk\/imo\/your-stories\/the-imo-podcast-series-3-episode-5-scarletts-story\/\">Scarlett<\/a>, who talks about the powerful animations she\u2019s created about her own and others\u2019 journeys through the foster care system, being separated from her family and siblings, and the compromises the system causes you to make.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We added to our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk\/imo\/turning-25\/\">Turning 25 series<\/a>, where you share stories of losing support from their local authority and ran a campaign around this as part of National Care Leavers Week 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We heard about projects tyou have been part of or founded:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mary-Anne shared why she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk\/imo\/your-stories\/the-guarantor-scheme-giving-care-leavers-the-opportunity-to-rent-privately\/\">founded the Guarantor Scheme<\/a> and wants every care leaver to have the opportunity to rent privately if they want to.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Louise shared why she started writing plays and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk\/imo\/your-stories\/sharing-stories-of-care-through-theatre-get-involved\">importance of theatre in sharing stories of care<\/a>, as well as an opportunity to get involved in her latest project.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Teenagers from Hull Young Voices Influencing Care shared their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk\/imo\/your-stories\/dream-on-a-new-animation-challenging-people-to-think-differently-about-what-care-should-be\/\">animation \u2018Dream on\u2018<\/a> which aims to challenge people to think differently about what care should be.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Coram Story of Care ambassador shared their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk\/imo\/your-stories\/fostering-friendships-and-creativity-in-corams-voices-through-time-programme\/\">experience of fostering friendships and creativity<\/a> in Coram\u2019s Voices Through Time programme.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scarlett shared her series of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk\/imo\/your-stories\/an-animated-series-portraying-journeys-through-the-foster-care-system\/\">animations portraying journeys through the foster care system<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We shared practical guides for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk\/imo\/your-stories\/a-practical-guide-for-finding-discounts-grants-funding-and-career-opportunities\/\">finding discounts, grants, funding and career opportunities<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/educationgovuk.sharepoint.com\/sites\/ChildrensCommissionersoffice\/Shared%20Documents\/Communications\/Blog%20posts\/Drafts\/\u2022%09https:\/imohub.org.uk\/practical-guide-to-starting-university\/\">applying to and starting university<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk\/imo\/your-stories\/university-and-college-contacts\/\">University and college contacts<\/a> &#8211; support details and funding information for care leavers and care leaver team contacts for UK colleges and universities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We ran a giveaway in partnership with Breethe Wellness App asking for responses around what helps the IMO community look after their mental and physical wellbeing &#8211; we will be sharing the responses in the New Year to support you in looking after your health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We added to our Career Experienced People series with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk\/imo\/your-stories\/career-experienced-people-meet-kim-a-care-experienced-project-manager-on-the-civil-service-fast-stream\/\">video from Kim<\/a>, a care-experienced Project Manager on the Civil Service Fast Stream who did a secondment at Smart Works, a charity offering free career guidance, one-to-one interview support and interview outfits to unemployed women or women on zero hours contracts. She shares what she does day-to-day, the best part of her job and the Care Leaver Programme she has been developing for Smart Works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We will be sharing the experience of a care leaver on the Civil Service Care Leaver Internship Scheme in the new year and this year shared <a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk\/imo\/your-stories\/get-a-paid-internship-in-the-civil-service\/\">information about applying for the internship<\/a>, with applications closing on 8<sup>th<\/sup> January 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also added to our series of quick and delicious budget recipes sharing recipes for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk\/imo\/life-hacks\/quick-and-delicious-budget-recipes-tree-biscuits\/\">Tree biscuits<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk\/imo\/life-hacks\/quick-and-delicious-budget-recipes-home-made-pop-trts\/\">Home made pop t*rts<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk\/imo\/life-hacks\/quick-and-delicious-budget-recipes-chickpea-carrot-coriander-falafels\/\">Chickpea, carrot and coriander falafels<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk\/imo\/life-hacks\/quick-and-delicious-budget-recipes-biscoff-crumble-key-lime-pie\/\">Biscoff crumble key lime pie<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We ended the year <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through\">off<\/span> with a Christmas competition to ask you to offer messages of support and advice to their peers over the Christmas period.\u00a0 Your messages were shared <a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk\/imo\/your-stories\/supportive-messages-for-christmas-from-the-imo-community\/\">to support all care experienced young people through the holiday period<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have also run \u2018Dear Future Me\u2019 goal setting workshops &#8211; get in touch if you are interested <a href=\"mailto:hello@imohub.org.uk\">hello@imohub.org.uk<\/a>!.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">IMO was created by the Children\u2019s Commissioner for England in collaboration with an advisory network of teenagers with care experience. The Children\u2019s Commissioner\u2019s free and independent advice and advocacy service \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk\/help-at-hand\/\">Help at Hand<\/a>\u2019 is also here to provide support, advice and advocacy for every child with a social worker, in care and those who have left care.
