Here is the result.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/C3DCYTik8fA\" width=\"724\" height=\"407\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">#definecare<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Foster care is nothing like Tracey Beaker<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Social workers changing all the time<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having to tell my story again and again<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authors of no authority, yet they know best<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Social workers, alcoholism, LAC reviews<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What was lacking was love<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A misguided path to independence<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And a consequence of a childhood betrayed<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Care is having financial assistance thrown at a situation<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it isn\u2019t always the answer<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My PlayStation was imagination<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dream cast new realities to avoid the thought of isolation<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s OK to say; \u201cHey, I need some help, I\u2019m not OK this day\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Care is isolation<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Care is loneliness<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But care has more than one definition<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Care is many things<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s love and it\u2019s loss<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s fear and it\u2019s security<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s hurt, but it\u2019s resilience<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Care is love<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Care is kindness<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Care is passion that will never die<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Care gave me a safe space to grow up in<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Care is hope<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A chance to allow someone who cares to look after me<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My care experience was the birth of my new life<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I care for others will love and compassion<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I was cared for as a stranger and accepted as family<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You see, I define care as an asset to humanity<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When harnessed and properly understood<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A care leaver\u2019s vulnerability can be like a superpower<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Being in care meant that I was different<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But my differences gave me a new family<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My friends, my people, my world<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My differences gave me a life I never dreamt of having<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>True care is hidden in bureaucracy<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But true care will shine a light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Thank you to everyone who took part:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Alicia, Benjamin, Carla, Casey, Chloe, CPositivista, Danielle, David, Eleanor, Jai, Keeley, Kim, Nils, Paris, Ric, Rosie, Sophia, and Tychique.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We invited care leavers from across the country to come together virtually during the lockdown to create a collaborative poem about how they define care.
