Maggie Atkinson congratulates GCSE exam students
24 August 2010
Maggie Atkinson, Children's Commissioner for England, congratulating GCSE exam students said:
"Congratulations to the 750,000 young people who took their GCSE exams this year. As with the A-level students' results, the increase in the pass rate highlights the hard work these pupils have put in over two years. It is also encouraging that the gender gap in attainment is narrowing.
"Although the current economic climate and increased competition from A-level students could present serious challenges to the potential career paths of GCSE students, I am encouraging all young people to focus on the changing demands of the jobs market and seek out the most beneficial options to help them to progress. Today's exam results demonstrate just what our young people are capable of achieving. Let's celebrate their success and help them to navigate the demands and challenges of our changing society."
